Fri, 29 September 2006 This is an audio blog of two live tournaments I played, one in Reno and one in Redding CA. I also walked through some other casinos in Reno. Aloha, Matt Comments[10] |
Wed, 31 May 2006 This was a tournament made up of Third Person Poker listeners. Everybody had a lot of fun. We will be doing it again next month! I was doing OK, until I lost control & made a stupid move. It was worse than a bad move - a bad move is something that makes sense after the fact, but didn't turn out right - After not catching any cards for a while, I tried to defend my blinds well past the point of reason. There were a lot of interesting plays, be sure to take notes of UncleWaldo's demonstration of excellent big stack poker. He had the chips and kept pressing and pressing. See you next tournament. iPod & MP3 feeds to follow. Aloha, Matt Comments[2] |

Wed, 15 March 2006 Aloha from San Jose!
I went to Bay 101 tonight and played for about 2 1/2 hours. Overall I was impressed with Bay 101. The staff was friendly and professional. I ordered a burger that took a while to get to me, but it was hot when it got there. I was told it is the best Poker Room in the Bay area. I wish it was closer to my hotel. I will be going back on Thursday night! Aloha, Matt Comments[5] |
Thu, 23 February 2006 ![]() This was a really exciting tournament! There was a lot of action throughout. We are doing some new things in this vidcast. There are three hands where I stop the action and talk about how I played them. Please give me some feedback if you think I played them right. Minimizing losses on hands you will lose is _very_ important. If you think you can analyze a hand as good as Columbo, drop me a line, I would like to have you as a guest. And yes, we will have Columbo back on as soon as he is willing! -M Comments[0] |
Mon, 13 February 2006 ![]() This is really great interview with Columbo. He is the autor of pokerwannabe.blogspot.com and the One Minute Mystery. The first 20 minutes are Q&A, then we analyze five hands for tourament #5. His analysis is first rate. Enjoy and be sure to view Columbo's blog at pokerwannabe.blogspot.com -M Comments[0] |
Sun, 29 January 2006 ![]() Boy...I really did not feel it at all during this tournament. I made _many_ mistakes. Both in my playing and the commentary. There are no doubt 5 or 6 places I zigged when I should have zagged. It is good viewing for a lesson on mistakes people make. I realize some of the mistakes right after I make them. Here is the RSS link that allows you to only get the audio episodes. You can cut and paste it into you favorite podcast catcher. http://thirdpersonpoker.libsyn.com/rss/podcasts Enjoy this one, I think I lose with grace, but everyone flips out now and then. One good thing is that you will learn how I kick it when playing in the tournaments. -M Comments[0] |
Thu, 12 January 2006 This is a no-limit tournament that I think is a really good template for playing touraments. I played very tight while players are being knocked out, then got more and more agressive as the table emptied. It wasn't a switch that I flipped, but more of a gradual change. I was able to steal with poor hands, and punish people when I had a good hand. Stay tuned....on the next video podcast I will be evaluating some of the computer poker analysis tools. -M Comments[0] |
Sun, 1 January 2006 This is a free tournament I played recently at PokerRoom. I like to free tournaments because it lets me practice particular parts of my game - things I would not want to do with real money. This tournament I played every connector and any ace. Every major poker site has a free area that allows you to try things like:
Be sure to keep track of the results so you can analyze them. Here is the link to the spreadsheet I filled out during the podcast Results Spreadsheet As you can expect there was lots of action as three crazy players were knocked out on the first hand. Very ineresting betting at the end. Here is the itunes link - please leave a comment if you get a chance. -M Comments[0] |
Wed, 21 December 2005 This is a speed tournament I played recently at PokerRoom. I like to play speed tournaments because it lets me practice my push game. Blinds go up every three minutes. A lot of tight players have two gears, tight and kamikaze - nothing in between. You should have at least 4 gears: 1. Tight 2. Semi-Aggresive 3. Aggresive 4. Kamikaze A professional poker player is able to play in any gear at any time. This is the biggest difference between a great player and a pro. As you can expect there was lots of action because of the blind structure. -M Comments[0] |
Thu, 8 December 2005 Join me and the gents from Poker Diagram and analyze a hand from The Poker Diagram Listener Tournament. I think you will find the discussion and anaysis interesting. You will see the hand from a 3rd person's perspective, then watch the hand unfold knowing what the cards are. File is 19 MB Comments[0] |
Mon, 21 November 2005 This is the audio version of Tournament #1. This tournament was full of very strange plays. The outcome of this tournament is very suprising. When I watched it again, I couldn't believe it. I felt like such a loser with what I said at the end of the tournament....maybe I was just tired. -M Comments[2] |
